SennsLab: Guide to the Survey Template

The Survey Template in SennsLab

The survey template is used to present a questionnaire to the participant to complete while their emotional response is recorded.

The survey template is an In Lab template.

To set up a survey experiment:

  1. Set Survey Name and Description
The survey name will be displayed on each screen during the study.  The description will be displayed once at the start of the survey.

  2. Settings
Select "Randomize Sections" to display the survey sections in random order.  Otherwise, they will display in the order they are listed under "Survey Sections".  Note that this randomizes the sections themselves, not questions within the sections.  (see #3 below to randomize questions).
If you select "check answers by selection", SennsLab will not proceed to the next survey section if any questions marked "Mandatory" are still incomplete.

  3. Define a Survey Section

    - Enter the Section ID.  This is for identification purposes only and is not displayed to the participant.
    - Enter the Name and Description.  These will be displayed to the participant during the test.
    - Select "Randomize questions" if you would like to randomize the order of questions presented within this specific survey section.

  4. Create a List of Questions for the Survey Section

    - Enter a Name.  This is for internal identification only and will not be displayed to the participant.
    - Enter the question itself.
    - Select if the question is mandatory.  If it is, and the question is not answered, the participant will be warned before moving on.
    - Optionally attach an image to display with this question.  Acceptable image formats are .jpg, .jpeg, .png and .bmp.

Important Considerations:

Some important considerations when using the survey template:

  • When recording physiological responses with the survey template, we recommend limiting each section to a single question each.  That way only one question will appear at a time to the participant, allowing for better parsing of emotional data.
  • The survey template does not provide support for eye tracking data. Eye tracking output will not appear in the results.
